In a letter dated 8–2-45, Kai Grundt, a connoisseur of Weie's art, mentions that the painting can be dated to approx. 1907, and he refers to it as “one of his most beautiful and peculiar early works. It is extraordinarily beautiful in its colour and remarkably evocative. The image is a characteristic example of a youthful personal style and form ... or colour ...” Kai Grunth (1885–1961) was originally a painter and sculptor, from 1911 a partner in Winkel & Magnussen. In 1908, he lent his studio to Weie, and Grunth became one of the artist’s most faithful friends.
